The Elk Landing Foundation was created by a group of historically-minded and dedicated citizens to raise fund, restore, preserve and interpret the rich heritage of the Head of Elk. Stewardship - Elk Landing is a national treasure to be restored and preserved in perpetuity for all to enjoy. The Foundation is entrusted to provide the organizational structure guided by sound and prudent policies that will insure that Elk Landing will achieve its Vision and Mission, and further continue to do so for hundreds of years. It is through the appointment of wise leadership working cooperatively for the Foundation’s common goals that will insure that this stewardship is successful. It is with this in mind the Foundation appoints members to it Board and as Honorary Trustees. Organization - The group is chartered in the state of Maryland as The Historic Elk Landing Foundation, Inc. Federal government for non-profit 501(c)(3) status has been approved which will allow for all contributions to be tax deductible. It is governed by bylaws which place operating authority with a Board of Directors. Board of Directors - Fifteen members comprise the Board with three appointed by the Town of Elkton, for four year terms and twelve selected by the Board of Directors from membership in the Foundation. Except for initially staggered terms all members in the group of twelve serve for four years with three vacancies occurring each year. New Board members are elected at the Foundation’s annual meeting in October. The current Board is: Members at large:

Licensing - The first logo is the Elk Landing Logo. This colorful trademarked logo was created in the fall of 1999 to provide product identification for Elk Landing. It shows the British Union Jack on the left and the American Stars and Stripes on the right. Separating the two is a blue curved line representing the Elk River, which divides towards the top into the Little and Big Elk creeks. The lowermost star represents the location of Elk Landing. It is shown on the upper left corner of this page. It was created and designed by Foundation Board member Jack L. Shagena and first incorporated by graphic artist Robin Axtell into an Elk Landing color brochure published in late 1999. Subsequently it was used on the Foundation’s envelopes and membership cards. In early April 2000 it was adapted for use on the Foundation’s web site by designers John and Renie Poole. On April 29, at the Foundation’s first public event Defenders’ Day, Gary and Deborah Storke donated a hand-sewn flag of the logo which was unveiled for the first time while the Colonial Sounds of American Field Music played, The World Turned Upside Down. In the future it is planned to have nylon silk-screened flags of the logo made which will be sold in the Foundation’s Museum store to be opened in the Hollingsworth house.
